Known as cooperative games, Pandemic and Forbidden Island show students social responsibility by participating actively with others in learning situations and by contributing questions and ideas during game play. Students have the opportunity to collaborate with others toward a common goal. Other games such as Catan give students the tools to build their own settlements, cities, and roads. Games are essentially learning systems, which provide scenarios for developing strategy and engaging with others. Some of these games encourage cooperation while others emphasize competition. Sportsmanship, communication, camaraderie, and different types of analytical, practical, creative, and intellectual skills all come into play with these games.
