Students today require lessons that engage the senses. We have texts of Shakespeare's plays, but having illustrated copies for each group will help students interact with the words in more than one way. We can watch clips of actors performing and see examples of the types of costumes used in Shakespeare's original productions. Shakespeare's plays are meant to be seen, not just read! After studying Romeo and Juliet as Freshmen and A Midsummer Night's Dream as Sophomores, I would like to offer my students the opportunity to choose from a variety of The Bard's best as Juniors. In order to offer this opportunity, we also need books and video clips to introduce a variety of plays to allow students to self-select the play that interests them. We then follow up with "the Scottish play" as Seniors. At each level, my students will benefit from these materials.
