My students have autism and benefit highly from hands-on materials. They are learning their letters (upper and lowercase). Flash cards are not the most effective teaching material for them. The students’ progress can be small and slow. The different math items will help increase their comprehension of concepts being taught and their participation. These items will help provide more opportunities to learn and generalize counting, patterns, sorting, letter recognition, and letter sounds. My students have different sensory needs and having a variety of math manipulatives will be extremely beneficial. They enjoy items they can manipulate to engage them in the lessons.
