Our school lost everything during Hurricane Harvey. Before school began, I had purchased many alternate-seating materials, including area rugs. Our students love to sit in different areas in the room based on their learning styles, and the materials being requested will aid in this. Our new classrooms will be bare, and we will be starting from the floor on up. We will be in portable buildings any day now, and my goal is to make our classroom as inviting and comfortable as possible, while enriching our learning. The colorful rugs, bean bag chairs, and lap desks will brighten my room and allow for alternate seating to those who wish to take advantage of it. These materials will be used and enjoyed by 35 different students, each with different needs and requirements. These materials will help our students to feel comfortable, as well as allow them alternate seating than the desks provided. They will be able to sit and work/study on the area rugs, use the bean bag chairs, and also use the lap desks for comfort. Many students have difficulty sitting in a desk, conformed to one area. Alternate seating allows for differentiation in their learning, therefore helping them to be more successful.
