Continual professional development is a cornerstone of the teaching profession. We must actively seek to refine our practice in myriad ways. Last year, I worked toward this goal by completing my National Board certification. This was a deeply meaningful accomplishment for myself and my personal professional development. This year, I decided the best way I could improve my pedagogical practice would be to improve upon the outward presentation of my classroom skills through enhancing opportunities for authentic engagement in my class.
I can think of no better way of achieving this goal than participating in workshops specifically designed to foster fun and meaningful interactions in the classroom.
Vickie Davis writes that "a class with high levels of engagement becomes a powerful learning machine." In order to build this machine in my class, I am requesting the funds to attend the conference Get Your Teach On in Houston. This conference is full of world-renowned presenters and is specifically focused on increasing the level of engagement and rigor to the classroom.
