My Traditional Kindergarten students are at risk of not getting the much-needed hands-on quality education due to lack of at home resources. I teach at a Title 1 school which means that most of my students are from low-income families. They do not have the means, usually, to buy the necessary or proper hands-on materials needed for instruction. Even the basic necessities are out of reach for the families at my school.
Not returning to the classroom for the first trimester is very difficult for TK students since we are a hands-on grade level. I want to still be able to supply my students with the necessary hands-on materials that we’d be using in the classroom. Online learning is challenging for four to five-year-old children, and in an effort to keep this new group motivated and engaged, I would like for the students to have a set of the materials at home with them so they can do what I am doing. Therefore, they’d be getting the most out of their online learning experience.
Our school is lucky to be able to provide them with the proper crayons, scissors, pencils, and some hands-on materials. But these students deserve more. They deserve their own materials while having to “attend school” through distance learning.
