My students are coming into my class this year at a strong reading level. In order to maintain this level of achievement as well as grow to even stronger levels, I would like my students to be comfortable while reading. As of now, they only have their desk and chair to read at, both of which would not be described as comfortable. My first graders are more than willing to challenge themselves if they are motivated. These flexible seating choices will motivate my students to grab a book and have a seat, but will also help them to develop a love for reading that they will carry forever!
The flexible seating choices that would be provided to my students through this project, will allow them to be COMFORTABLE while reading.
My students will frequently be able to move around the room to find a quiet place that they can let their imagination soar through a good book. With these seats, the children will be able to work collaboratively in pairs or small groups on projects or independently in a place that works for them. We will be able to use clip boards to record information about our reading, develop interests in multiple genres of books and grow our love for reading, all while being comfortable in our flexible seating. My students will be able to maintain focus and interest in reading for longer periods of time if they are able to sit in a comfortable place. I have seen the enjoyment and growth that comes from students who have a comfortable place to sit as well as the ability to move that seat anywhere in the room. I wish to provide my students with the same level of comfort and opportunities to grow academically, socially and as individuals!
