The students in my class are diagnosed with the Autism Spectrum Disorder. They range in age from three to four. For many of my students, this is their first experience in a classroom setting. My students are working on a modified pre-school curriculum. They access the curriculum using the principles of ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) and sensory integrated activities. Along with the curriculum, my students are working on developing their independence with daily routines such as: toilet training, self feeding, and asking for help. Many of my students are non-verbal. This means they have little to no functional language. During the school year my students are developing their communication skills. We use a variety of methods such as: picture exchange, sign language, and verbal communication. Over the school year, my students are working towards becoming independent learners.
