On December 1, my 4th grade dual language classroom will embark an exciting new science unit on our changing Earth. Students will engage in hands-on activities to for themselves how the forces of earthquakes, volcanoes, erosion and weathering continually transform the face of our Earth. In the dual language program, Science is taught completely in Spanish.
Providing beautiful, engaging books in Spanish and English based on our changing Earth will provide my students with valuable background information they will need to apply these new scientific concepts.
I am requesting historical books about the buried city of Pompeii and archaelogical books about the remains found there. Students can read about the rock cycle, earthquakes, volcanoes and precious gems. Further, students may choose fictional stories based on major geological events in our Earth's history or graphic novels featuring a daring archeologist.
This may seem like an exorbitant request for only 20 students. But consider the lasting benefit as this classroom library will be used and loved for 2 years, 3 years, 5 years and beyond.
Please help me provide a vibrant, bilingual classroom library full of reading material that my students will love.
