The world is changing on a daily basis, and so are the interests of my students. My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest in reading. New literature touches on all students' interests. Students can hear their own voice within the pages of the book, propelling each student to get more out of the book. New literature addresses relevant topics like bullying, learning differences and the power of girls. The social and emotional needs of students are addressed in new literature and tolerance and perseverance are brought to the forefront. This allows students to engage in thoughtful conversation and understand others' point of view. In addition, nonfiction topics will bring the importance of STEM and STEAM to students. Here students can learn to think and read critically when they are surrounded by competing sources of information. Learning to read and write critically is vital when competing in an ever changing world.
