Flexible seating is a great way to help boost student choice and participation in class. They are given more control of the classroom which in turn gives them a greater sense of community and responsibility. Flexible seating also improves children's concentration and physical health. In this Donors Choose, I have a variety of flexible seating options. You will find exercise balls that have feet on them. These balls allow students to move and engage their core muscles while the feet keep the ball from rolling out from under them. There are scoop chairs which allow students the freedom to move around the room and choose to work in small groups or independently. There is a set of elastic bands for each child's seat. These are placed around the feet of a chair and allows the students a place to rest or move their feet without creating distractions for the other learners.
