I work in a magnet school in the metropolitan Atlanta area that focuses on integrating the visual and performing arts into the academic core. We are also a Title I school, where the majority of my students are African-American, Asian, and Latino ethnicity. Many of our students are economically-disadvantaged and recipients of free and reduced lunch. In my classroom, I work hard to provide a strong foundation in US history for 11th grade students. I also teach AP US History. In addition to the state-mandated curriculum, I place a heavy emphasis on social justice, community service, and civic engagement. My ultimate goal is to encourage the younger generation to know the past and use their knowledge of the past to transform the future.
