I want all my students to walk into a classroom where they feel that they can be successful. My belly readers need a rug where they can lie down and got lost in their books. My wigglers need wobble stools where they can move AND maintain focus. My loungers need lap trays so that they can work and be comfortable. A variety of flexible seating options has many benefits for my students. They become confident, comfortable learners. Their independence as learners increases as they reflect on the seating options which work best for them. They grow in respect for the diversity of styles they see in their classmates. They have more opportunities for collaboration than traditional seating arrangements allow. Most importantly, flexible seating allows my students to move their bodies and grow their brains.
