The student population at our creative and performing arts school is extremely diverse. The students at our school must audition and show potential in one of six disciplines: Fine Art, Vocals, Instrumental, Graphic Art, Media Art/Technology, Dance or Theater. Not only do our students differ in the discipline that they study, but their backgrounds are diverse as well: 51% - White 28% - African-American 13% - Latino 5% - Asian 3% - other (Sudan, Israel, Samoa, Native American to name a few in my 9th grade). Fifty-one percent of the students are "economically disadvantaged". We are a magnet school which is fed by many kids from the immediate neighborhood, but do have a significant amount of students who take several buses for upwards of 2 hours, just to get here in the morning. We aim to make our school diverse in many different ways. In doing so, we've created a community of learners who aim to carry out our core values.
