At a rural high school in Ohio, I have taught a wide range of students from at-risk freshmen to seniors hoping to pursue a college degree. My first goal as one of their teachers is to encourage them to grow and, hopefully, inspire them to read and learn on their own. Our school district has had an increasingly tight budget in recent years, which makes it difficult to replace inadequate materials as well as match the rigor of the new common core curriculum.
