When students have a positive experience with reading in the classroom, they find a new love for English and reading that they didn't know existed. With a coffee house feel (hence the k-cups and creamer on my list), we create an atmosphere of reading that is not just all for studying. Hopefully, by associating reading with something exciting and friendly, we can create readers out of these students. This past Christmas I purchased out-of-pocket many, used books and let students read in class for no other reason but to read for enjoyment. It proved to be an experience worth the money. Students selected books and many of them "adopted" them over break. You would have thought they were kids in a candy store! I want to continue to provide this for my in-coming spring semester students and beyond, but my bank account won't let me. Thank-you for your interest in my project! I truly appreciate your willingness.
