My students live in a very low socio-economic area. We are a Title I school, and most parents have very limited education. Approximately 3% of the parents have had any college, and many do not have a high-school diploma. Over 95% of our students are on free or reduced-lunch. Additionally, many receive a free breakfast, and, for the most part, our school must continually do fundraisers in order to afford one field trip per year for the students. Currently, we are reduced to one computer cart (13 computers) with limited internet access for eight classrooms, which equates to two grade levels. Currently, we have no computer lab facilities and a moderately supplied library, with no librarian. Suffice it to say, students have very limited resources and do not have much access to current information, and they do not have access to the technology tools of the 21st century. In short, there exists a definite "digital-divide" at our school site.
