Our school is a federally funded Title I school in NC. I teach music to 550 students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. About 70% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. The economic status of our school is very low. Many of our students come from poverty stricken homes that survive day to day. Parent involvement is at an all-time low. These students come to school daily with so many more problems than what I could every imagine. Our school is the only safe place for many of them. We, as teachers, strive to provide a happy oasis for them while they are with us and teach them to strive for excellence.
