Oh Kindergarten. A time I'm learning where every lesson better include a hip tune, every classroom procedure better have a chant or else and if you're not sweating you're not doing it right. In the walls of Kindergarten you will find tiny humans with a restless appetite to learn, an abundance of energy and who will hug you faster than they cry. Kindergarten means learning to read. Not just learning, but loving to read. I want my kinders to learn with love. However, more than 75% of students are from low-income households and there is lack of funds for a classroom library with enriching books. "Just right" books for my student's will propel their foundational skills in reading off in the right direction. Having "just right" books for guided reading, read-a-loud, centers and more will expose my students to great literature, powerful messages and feed their sense of independence as they become rockstar readers.
