The light doesn't always necessarily have to be in your family; for me it was teachers and school" One of my most favorite quotes, coined by Oprah Winfrey. I am a proud 16 year veteran teacher- leading and inspiring students at the 8th grade level. I focus on blending social emotional learning with my ELA instruction. We focus on compassion, courage, confidence, consciousness (awareness), and community. We are a tapestry of colors, strengths, challenges learning in a rigorous, standards driven culturally competent environment that fosters the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary for my students to understand and manage emotions, feel and show empathy for others, resolve conflicts nonviolently, think creatively, and overcome obstacles to succeed in the classroom and in life.
