I am a special education teacher with a mission. I want all my students to communicate in any (and every) way they can. I have 11 students with severe multiple disabilities. Nearly half are autistic. Most do not speak at all. All of the students get assistance from icons and speaking devices to be understood. The community is our classroom. These young adults learn to navigate the world at large....order at a fast food restaurant, shop for groceries, find a favorite item at the dollar store. We teach students to be more independent in the classroom and community. Students are encouraged to express themselves in anyway possible.
