My students love to play and build. From open ended play to crafts and teaching educational concepts there is so much do with a light table! Light tables are exciting and provide our children with an opportunity to explore. A light table is fun and mesmerizing for all children, but it specifically helps to increase the attention spans of children with special needs. We are an inclusion classroom and this will be beneficial for all students. It uses light to shine through transparent colors to build, mix, and reflect. Children can spend hours with a light box, exercising their fine motor skills by creating illuminated patterns and pictures with brightly colored transparent shapes. In an at risk, low-income community, such a table will provide an experience of a lifetime to all of the children in our classroom. My students also love to build with blocks, connecting toys, and of course cars. A train set will be an amazing addition to our free choice time. Allowing children to have a choice in something they do is a very powerful concept. I want to give my students the opportunity and choice to experience the joy and excitement a train set can bring. It will allow them to build train tracks, create scenes, and learn to play with fellow peers. I know my students will love the train set and of course I am sure I will hear a lot of little trains in my classroom during free choice.
