My students are six and seven year old inspiring readers from a primarily low income population. Serving a low income population often has its' challenges, one of them being a shortage of books. They want to become great readers but need help to accomplish this task. They need books to help them to learn to read. Once they've achieved that, they can read to learn. This is the basic skill that will allow them to progress through elementary school, high school and into their future. Knowing that they have learned to read will give my students the confidence that they need to progress as learners.
