Flexible seating is so much more than "getting the wiggles out" as many people may think. Flexible seating in my classroom is about choice. Giving students a choice allows them to take charge of their learning. They can choose where and how they work best. Having options like the Lap Desks, yoga mats, and cushions will allow them to move away from the old traditional desks. Doesn't everyone like to be comfortable when doing their work? So do our students. Right now they love to sit under their desks, use my rocking chair, or just lay on the carpet with clipboards. I love the idea that I can give them even more options. Collaboration is a HUGE part of our classroom. We partner up, group up, and change those partners and groups quite often. These extra seating options- and moving away from traditional desks will allow my students to not only have flexible seats, but also flexible groups!
