Having the busy books with the characters included will allow for my students with special needs to interact with each other in imaginary play while being exposed to new vocabulary in the stories. Additionally, the character toys set the stage to teach my students to share and take turns, skills they struggle to maintain without ongoing exposure and practice. Our preschool site has a weekly theme and having books for the themes will allow the students to better engage and get excited about the theme. My project will make a difference because, as I said before, the books will allow the students to interact with one another. Students diagnosed with Autism often have social skill deficits. This grant will help to provide books which will entice my students to engage with one another.
