Our school is in rural West Virginia. The student population of our school is around 400, with around seventy percent qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Our school has limited funding, making access to some materials difficult. My students are in grades kindergarten through fourth and have been diagnosed with different exceptionalities, included mental impairments, learning disabilities, or behavior disabilities. Most of their families' socioeconomic statuses are very low, which makes it difficult for my students to receive the help and outside services they need. They struggle greatly in the area of reading, specifically with comprehension and fluency. Some are grade levels behind their general education peers and as the curriculum gets tougher, my students are falling further behind. They are all sweet and caring students who have a desire to learn but require a differentiated approach to reading.
