No fourth or fifth grade student wants to read "See Spot Run." They want to read "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" or "Captain Underpants." They want to read exciting stories of adventure. It's really hard to read those stories when students are struggling readers and the books they want to read are just too hard.
The donations to this project will help build a mobile library full of accessible Hi-Lo books so that all struggling readers in the school have access to books they want to read.
By providing books in a mobile cart, all classrooms will have easy access without the books getting lost in the large library or boxed up in smaller classroom libraries. The books on this cart will specifically be Hi-Lo books. High interest level aimed at students in upper elementary and middle school with low reading levels (Lexile levels averaging around 200). Access to books that students want to read and can read will increase how often they do read. The more students read, the easier reading will be for them. Student behavioral concerns will decrease since struggling readers won't have to misbehave to hide that they can't read as they'll have access to books that look like the books of their peers and meets their individual needs.
Your help on this project will help many students increase their reading skills for years to come by providing books they can access.
