The standard classroom size is normally a bit small for the 22 growing 5th graders that I have this year. I have rearranged our room many different times this year, and I feel like I am running out of options. I have a fellow teacher who uses flexible seating and although I am apprehensive about it, I decided that I would try it out. I purchased 10 yoga mats, and we currently use yoga mats during our independent reading time. I alternate the days (boys/girls) so that everyone has a chance to use them. Flexible seating will allow my students a chance to sit at a space away from their desk where they can stretch out and carve themselves a niche where they can do their work comfortably. I have noticed that a lot of my students are more engaged when they are actually able to choose where they sit and what they are sitting on. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The wobble stools are adjustable and will allow students to sit at desk/higher tables but will still allow some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed! The comfy floor seats and the tractor seat chairs will allow for additional comfortable seating options. The floor seats are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom when the students are gathering to collaborate on projects and group work.
