Students in my 4th grade classroom come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences; each is a vital member of our classroom community. Some have traveled with their families while others have never left their home town; some have many life experiences to share and connect with whereas others struggle with making the connection between real life and learning. Our classroom community contains a variety of personalities, abilities, learning styles, strengths and weaknesses. Each day we learn from each other and with each other. Guided reading and guided math rotations are a huge part of our schedule and daily routine. Our school community is unique and contains only upper elementary grades. We are a Title I school where students receive additional support in reading. Almost half of the student population receives free and reduced lunch. Our school division follows an inclusion model and differentiation is vital to ensure students benefit from instruction designed to meet their needs.
