My students attend an urban school in Michigan. Our school is one of nine elementary schools in the district. Student population consists of 84% free and reduced lunch. 60% of our population is economically disadvantaged. We have an 18% population of Asian, first generation Burmese, many that are experiencing school for the first time. They make up 16% of English Language learners in our building. The remaining population consists of 16% African American, 51% Caucasian and 4% Hispanic. On average, about half of our students come from single parents home.
