My name is Merrill Kazanjian. I am a progressive educator who works at a wonderful school called Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School in the South Bronx. I currently serve as a Special Education Coordinator at my school, but I spent the first ten years of my career teaching visual arts. Both SPED and Visual Arts are incredibly important to me and surprisingly have a lot in common! A Special Education teacher teaches his/her students how to understand themselves, and how to focus on their strengths and navigate around their weaknesses. An art teacher teaches his/her students how to communicate their vision to the world, through mastery of multiple media. BOTH academic disciplines are rooted in problem solving!
