Students need hands-on, team building activities but these seem hard to fit into the day of a regular classroom. As the school librarian and media specialist, I would love to allow all students the opportunity to work together to create and learn to play together the way most of us did, through board games, card games, LEGO kits, and Areaware sets, This project will promote teamwork and communication skills to over 400 students in grades pre-k through fifth. These activities and games will be taught and used as incentives for positive behavior and used during library time to promote patience, teamwork and communication skills. It seems as if many students are not given the time to work together even on simple tasks such as board games. Allowing students to earn special days where we will set up activities, work together and have fun while learning is just as important as written assessments. These activities will allow me the opportunity to provide "game" days in my library where we can learn to work together, follow rules and directions and create or solve problems through communication and teamwork.
