My students attend a public high school in an urban setting in Pennsylvania. My classroom is a self-contained life skills support classroom. Our curriculum is comprised of the domains: interpersonal communication, functional academics, vocational academics, personal maintenance, domestic maintenance, and recreation and leisure. As my students are 18-21 years of age, our biggest focus is vocational academics - getting my students ready to transition from school to work. My students all face various disabilities, ranging from intellectual disabilities to physical disabilities. Many of our activities and tasks done while in our classroom require adult assistance to complete; some students even require hand-over-hand assistance. Despite their disabilities, all my students still show a desire to be in school and learn new things. They all have their own personalities and are truly unique and wonderful individuals!
