Henry Wadsworth Longfellow said, "By too much sitting still the body becomes unhealthy; soon the mind. This is nature's law." Students today spend too much time sitting down, and need the opportunity to get up and stand: “Standing up helps children access working memory, improving concentration and engagement." Too much sitting isn't good for anyone, especially overactive students. Students who go from class to class are required to sit for most of the day. This poses a problem for my students who struggle with ADHD. Our children need to stand up and move around. Being sedentary can aggravate ADHD symptoms and stand for students as a natural way to relieve symptoms. Please help my students stand when they need to, self-regulate when they need to, and make healthy choices that can turn into healthy habits.
