I teach a group of 15 students with moderate to severe disabilities. Each student is unique and requires different methods to learn not only academic skills but social and daily life skills as well. My students range from kids who can talk to tell you their wants and needs to students who use sign language or gestures to express themselves. Our school is in a low socioeconomic area in which most students do not have access to art outside of the classroom. The great thing about my students is how they take pride in themselves for the little things we take for granted everyday like tying our shoes, remembering to raise your hand to be called on, or making a picture of themselves with construction paper, yarn and glue.
