At Southside High School, we encourage our students to explore. Algebra class is no exception. We dig deep into problems daily to find meaning in numbers and situations. In order to fully explore a situation, graphing calculators are necessary. Graphing calculators provide tables, graphs, and a visual aid to students who need to visualize what's happening. Southside is a high poverty school, and the majority of my students are unable to afford their own calculators. Each math class is provided a partial class set of graphing calculators, but in order for every student to be successful, every student needs to be provided the necessary tools. I am requesting seven calculators to fill in the holes in my current 'class' set. Seven graphing calculators will allow every student to participate to the full extent in math class. It is also very useful for students to have every advantage on their End of Course state test.
