My 24 students come from families that live the highest poverty neighborhood in my school district (all qualify for free or reduced breakfast and lunch). Their families do not have much money, but they all love their children and want the best for them. The children all have speech and language delays or mild to severe developmental or physical disabilities. Most are learning English as a second language. We have a playground that was built for Kindergarten children and want and need to give our preschoolers more appropriate activities for their ages and abilities. Our students find this difficult with only a flat soccer and football. We could ask parents to donate balls, but they are trying to make rent, buy food, clothing and utilities. They just do not have the resources. We do what we can, but after purchasing Kleenex, daily snacks and other essential materials, teaching staff cannot afford much more. The children love to play with balls. They want to throw, catch and kick.
