I'm Katy Patterson, a middle school teacher at Lusher Charter School in New Orleans. Welcome to my Donors Choose page. My sixth grade students and I are extremely excited about our Unsung Heroes Projects. We started this project through NOLA4WOMEN.ORG. We are researching female heroes of New Orleans who have greatly impacted our city. So far we have discovered Sylvia Nuchurch Branch who integrated Lusher in 1961; Anne Levy, a New Orleans Holocaust survivor; and Charin Richard & Ashley Dewey of Raintree. Raintree is a home for abused and neglected girls located in New Orleans. We can't wait to see who we will learn about next because these heroes teach us how we can be heroes in our own lives!
