I teach in a public high school in the "quiet corner" of Connecticut. In our community many of the students are experiencing tough times. Our school, for many, is the one place they can rely on; a place where they feel loved, cared for, respected, and appreciated. My classroom has some pretty amazing kiddos who have varied abilities. My classroom is the highest level of support students can get in my district. Most of my students have experienced trauma throughout their lives. They all have very independent goals for both academic and behavior, but the ultimate goal for all of them is to ensure their mental health as well as graduate and live a meaningful adult life.
