My students are struggling to learn English as well as life skills such as reasoning, summarizing, and debate. Your donation will help us reach those goals. I teach in an urban, public elementary school in California. My fifth-graders want what all children want: to be engaged and excited about learning. Unfortunately, our school district is dealing with the state budget crisis, and there are no funds to supplement the dreary, scripted language arts program that was implemented almost ten years ago. The highlight of the week would be to put away those tired basals, and dive into some content-rich, thought-provoking journalism in the form of TFK!
