I'm a 4th grade teacher to bilingual students who come from many cultural backgrounds and English proficiency levels. Most of the class are newcomers to the country. My classroom is not just a safe haven for them, but it's the main place where their academic and social needs are met.They come from low-income families where their parents have to work multiple jobs just to be able to fulfill their children's basic needs. My classroom is not just a safe haven for them, but it is the main place where their academic and social needs are met. They're so eager to learn, reach their goals, and achieve their dreams. Some of the students in my class are Students with Limited Education. They have recently come to the US with limited or no education at all. I teach my students to read and work to build skills in their native language so when they begin to learn English they can transfer those skills over to learning English.
