My students are wonderful. They want to learn. They come in excited to be part of the classroom. Many of them are from struggling families. Yesterday, I had a parent send a note saying, "Could you please send home pencils with homework, we don't have things like that at the house." My families speak English, Spanish, Arabic, and American Sign Language. Some of them struggle with vocabulary. This week I realized many of them didn't know what it meant when I said the sky was cloudy. I stopped class to take them outside to show them what I meant. We learned about apples and trees. My students didn't understand what the trunk and the branches were from a picture. They had to touch it and see it to understand the what we talked about. Everything my students experience is another learning door opening for them. My goal as a teacher is to find as many ways as I can to get things into their hands and help them be successful.
