I am hoping to receive a "Getting Ready to Read Activity Classroom Carpet" for my alternative classroom to help make a difference in my students' learning. From print awareness to letter recognition, this carpet helps students explore a variety of basic skills before they start reading. It features a complete alphabet, with both upper- and lowercase letters, a 1-20 number wheel to help build number recognition, color patches printed with corresponding color words, and there are even basic shapes in each corner to increase visual discrimination! With this opportunity, students will be able to work on either independent or cooperative learning and use appropriate social skills when coming together. It will support visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners, as well as supplement the teaching, which is a powerful component for stored knowledge. An academic rug will allow all students to gather and focus on a specific academic topic, as well as create a sense of community when coming together for morning meeting. This basic teaching tool will represent a link between the exposure of curriculum and the level of understanding attained by each student. All students, regardless of placement and working ability, will have a positive place to share and interact.
