Our school is in a rural area and has over 80% of its students on free or reduced lunch. Because of the economical climate in the student population and the rural location, opportunities for private music instruction are very rare. Students at the elementary level retain much more knowledge through hands on learning experiences. Our students love music and look forward to their weekly opportunity to play musical instruments and sing. I teach approximately 750 students each week for 40 minutes, making individual student instruction and assessment somewhat challenging. Because of the limited amount of instruction time I am afforded, I continually pursue as many opportunities for hands on education as possible.
