I want to model the joy and importance of reading while my students are simultaneously acquiring another language. With so many things digital nowadays, students rarely see adults even reading real paperback books. My students seem to always get printouts or stapled together books I've attempted to put together. I really want them to feel the joy of just holding a real book while we are reading it together. Acquiring another language is so important nowadays and for my elementary level Spanish language learners it is often difficult to find materials that truly meet their needs. I will use these novels with their sheltered/ limited vocabulary to create stories and plays in the classroom. We will write and draw about what happens to the characters in the story and how we can relate to them. We will also use IB themes to dig deeper into the culture, geography, and science information found in these novels in order to support the whole child.
