Students will use the texts to enhance what they are learning about how animals use their bodies and behavior to help them survive. In this unit, students will research different animal defense mechanisms and understand that small animals can be quite mighty! We'll use the research to write informative pages about their chosen animal. When that's done, we will create "choose your own adventure" narratives with multiple endings. My students are already having a blast with this unit, but I want to encourage the use of physical texts rather than online research. The benefit of having a variety of texts is that they can practice citing sources and find information at their reading level.
