Research has shown that the single best thing a teacher can do to improve the reading abilities of students is to let them read books that are interesting to them. Giving students free choice over what to read makes reading fun and worthwhile, as opposed to something that has to be done for a grade. In order for my students to become lifelong voracious readers, they need engaging and interesting books in our classroom. Creating a vibrant classroom library that has books they want to read will not only improve my students' reading levels, but inspire them to keep reading for the rest of their lives. Graphic novels have a way of making even the most reluctant readers pick up a book and refuse to put it down. These types of books can hook students into a story and make them see reading like they never have before. Therefore, the majority of the books I am asking for are graphic novel adaptations of classic young adult novels, such as A Wrinkle in Time, the Baby-Sitters Club series, and the Percy Jackson series.
