Sketching is an important aspect of creating and developing thoughtful works of art! My students need a space to keep their ideas and develop an understanding of artistic vocabulary and processes throughout the year. Allowing the students to have a visual representation of growth and development throughout the course of the class is imperative to understanding themselves, not only as artists, but as individuals too. Using a sketchbook to organize the artistic process throughout a semester or year long class is a visual way to track progress, knowledge and the creative process and can serve as a physical reference for projects and ideas in the future. My students use their daily sketchbook warm ups as a safe and secure way of releasing emotions, improving skills and ideas, and discovering their character and personality.
