This is my second year with these students but my first year of being their teacher. I was grateful to receive a classroom library from the previous teacher, but unfortunately, my students have read most of those books over the years. Most of the students have very little to none when it comes to motivation for reading. But this new classroom library that I handpicked will open their minds and allow them to read books that they may even relate to. One of my students even peeked over my shoulder and pointed out a book that they wanted to read; Wonder. Most of my students come to class without a calculator and this causes a large gap in their math education. The consistency of maintaining the same calculator is so important because, without it, they fail to memorize the basic steps to using a calculator. To many people, using a calculator is a simple push of a button but when these students use a different calculator every year or in every class, it gets hard to fully understand how to use one. With this classroom set of calculators, I hope to strengthen this basic skill to ease their learning of new mathematical concepts.
