Research has shown that flexible seating leads to higher student engagement and attentiveness in the classroom. With a classroom full of sweet students with special needs and challenges, giving them flex seating choices with stools, pillows, rugs, etc., will enable them to be comfortable, attend to tasks, and have fun while doing it! It will also help meet varying sensory needs by giving them different forms of input based on the type of seat. Some of my students with physical challenges will be much more comfortable and have better access to activities using the floor seats and pillows. Wobble stools are great alternatives to chairs for students that have difficulty focusing and attending to tasks. The large classroom rug will allow ALL students to sit on it without crowding, along with a wheelchair, which will also change the environment of the classroom.
